Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick

The anointing of the sick is administered to bring spiritual and even physical strength during an illness, especially near the time of death. It is most likely one of the last sacraments one will receive. A sacrament is an outward sign established by Jesus Christ to confer inward grace. In more basic terms, it is a rite that is performed to convey God’s grace to the recipient, through the power of the Holy Spirit. (catholic.com)

If you or a loved one is in need of the Sacrament of the Sick, please let your caregiver know you are Catholic. You do not need to wait until death is near to receive this sacrament. Any member of the faithful can receive this sacrament as soon as he or she begins to be dangerously ill or has reached old age. The faithful can receive the sacrament several times if their illness becomes worse or another serious sickness afflicts them. The celebration of this sacrament should, if possible, be preceded by individual confession on the part of the sick person. Please call the Parish Office or the Priest to let them know. For spiritual emergencies, you may call Father's personal cell phone: 574-220-2338.
